I am not expecting any one to like this post. I want to show how we can be moved by synthetic content. I clearly stated it was made with AI, none of the images depict real people. It is generated by algorithms. Many people are posting similar content as if it is real, to manipulate and inflame emotions. Do you think we have passed the time where we can trust anything we see online?
My goal is to keep unwinding from it all. No social media accounts (with the caveat that Substack has become social media). AI is exciting yet I've resisted playing because I'm confident it's going to be abused and damage us all.
Hilariously, I gave it the prompt to generate a photo for me saying: “Arab guy in New York City” and it showed me a photo so hilarious I had to put it on my welcome email to new subscribers! It was wrong on so many levels. 😂😂
Weird hands, guy dressed somewhere between traditional Pakistani & Senegalese, and a 1950s Car in the background as if he was in Cuba.. AI is still stupid at understanding context..
They only know what they are trained on, and reflect the biases and stereotypes found within the training data. It's a big problem. This model is interesting with one or two word prompts.
At a glance, I’m not sure I would have known these were AI images, which does not give me great comfort. On closer inspection some of the eyes looks creepy and more animal-like but still… I had to look closer to notice whereas most of the time online is just scrolling.
If you haven't seen it yet, I am happy to let you know there is now a setting to block the AI bots from your Substack Pages. Go to your Dashboard, choose Settings and scroll down to publication details to find the option. It is a switch called Block AI training.

This is pretty discomforting.
My god! Amazing! where will we end up?
I wish I could tell you!
